I just saw a podiatrist bc the pain has not got much better, so now he has me in a boot and taking Meloxicam, icing, and I tape it. He has scheduled me for a follow up appointment in 6 weeks. Anyone know if they will get better after a year of trauma?
Have a look at www.walkwithoutpain.com.au -> info sheets -> shin splints for some info. Usually you would need orthotics for just ‘plain’ shin splints. You may have a neurological component if the fascia is being stretched downwards by foot pronation and pinching the nerve as it passes thru the fascial hernia, going from deep to superficial. If this is the case, there will be a small, pill sized area of exquisite pain~ 1 hand width up from the inside heel bone on the shin bone. I haven’t ever used a boot for shin splints. Seems excessive

Not the way he’s going at it, he is helping to make it worse, not much help there. I would never ice a shin splint for you have a muscle that is already in a mode where it is shortened and icing is going to try to shorten it more, that would add to your pain. Here is how you can release a shin splint and if you get it to work you can forget about the dr. for he hasn’t a clue:
Shin splints:
Right leg. Place your right leg on your lap and place your fingers from both hands side by side, right in the front of your shin, right next to the bone and press in and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your toes down as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your toes there for another 30 seconds.
