how to treat a sprained ankle..? 10 points!?

I slipped a few days ago and twisted my ankle pretty bad. It got really swollen and bruised. I could still slightly walk (with a major limp) .I wrapped it in an ace bandage but now 3 days later my ankle is still very bruised, swollen and I can’t put any weight on it. I had to skip school today because I can’t even walk.. any suggestions on what I can do to help it heal? Should I get a brace? The pain is pretty bad.. I’ve had many sprained ankles but none like this..thanks!

You may need to be on crutches if you cannot put any weight on your ankle. The Ace bandage will help. Keep your foot elevated when you are sitting down and lying down in bed. Use ice three to four times a day for no more than 15 to 20 minutes to help reduce the swelling. Take Advil for any pain. If you keep putting weight on your ankle, it is not going to heal very quickly. You need to keep the weight off of the ankle for at least three weeks.

    you need to rest it for a few daysand keep it strapped up… a few more days off school will do the trick, keep plenty of ice handy to help the swelling, soak your foot in very cold water too to numb the pain, take pain killers also.

    You didn’t sprain your ankle,you broke it,don’t put a brace on it.You need a foot doctor to do x-rays and evaluate condition..

    Go to your doctor to make sure there aren’t any bone problems or completely torn ligaments or tendons. If you don’t want to go then use crutches and follow RICE. Rest- don’t walk on it if you don’t have to, Ice- self explanatory, Compression- your ace bandage or brace (take it off when you go to bed, and Elevate- above your heart.
