What is the best way to treat a "sprained ankle"?

Mar 30

HI,
I sprained my ankle last Sunday playing soccer, and I tried to go play again yesterday but I couldn’t my ankle still hurts from when I twist or turn.

My ankle is "not" swollen, I can walk without limping, I can even run straight but when I make sudden turns, or move my ankle to some direction it sill hurts. Its taking a lot to heal, I really want to go back to playing soccer, my spring break starts today.

Can someone please recommend me good treatments for my ankle? are there any medicine to put on the ankle that will speed up the healing process, or is there anything out there which can help speed up the recovery?

Thank you all so much,
warm regards

-Bobby
See I don’t need a doctor it is not serious, my mother is a doctor she can tell if its fractured or not. But I still can’t play because I feel slight pain when kicking the ball.

I thought there is some cream or something that can help me recover 100%, and fast.

Well, Bobby…
It sound like it has healed wrong. Did you go to the doctor right away on the Sunday you sprained it? If not, go now. If you did,you should go back. Wrap it up good and tight, but not too tight, whenever walking or running. Keep ice on it when it is not wrapped. Make sure to keep pressure off f it as much as possible.
The most important thing is to see a doctor. if it healed wrong they may be able to fix t right away, or give you a splint/ brace to help it back in place. it you did not go to the doctor before, then it could have been a slight fracture and began healing wrong. it is hard to tell without an X-ray.
Best of luck to you bobby. Enjoy your spring break!

    First Aid and Continued Treatment
    Step
    1
Elevate the ankle to the level of your chest and rest the injury as much as possible.
    Step
    2
Apply an ice pack or a cold compress to the ankle, 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off, for the first 48 to 72 hours. Ice causes blood vessels to constrict. When vessels are constricted, less swelling and bruising will occur.
    Step
    3
See your doctor or go to the emergency room if pain and/or swelling is moderate to severe.
    Step
    4
Check your toenail bed for blanching every 12 hours for the first 3 days. This will ensure that you have adequate circulation going to your foot.
    Step
    5
Check the pulse in your foot. Lay the tips of your fingers on the top of your foot, right in the center, about 2 inches below the ankle. You should feel a bounding pulse. If you feel a weak, thready pulse, the circulation to your foot may be compromised. Call your doctor.
    Step
    6
Look at your foot. Make sure it is not gray or bluish. This is a sign of poor circulation. Even though your ankle is sprained, the circulation to your foot should be sufficient to keep it looking pink.
    Step
    7
Consult your doctor about taking acetaminophen or aspirin for pain. Never take more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.
    Step
    8
Apply warm compresses or a heating pad, 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off, after the first 2 to 3 days, or as recommended by your doctor.
    Step
    9
Wrap an elastic bandage around the ankle when you walk on it. Use a long, 2- to 3-inch-wide bandage, and start wrapping 8 inches above the ankle.
